You may request to be exempted from military service if you are

• a widowed father who has sole custody of at least one (1) living minor child, or
• a father who has been granted sole custody of at least one (1) living minor child following a final court decision, or
• a father who has sole custody, following a final court decision or due to the death of the mother, of at least one (1) living minor child with a disability rating of at least sixty-seven percent (67%) for life or with a disability rate of at least fifty percent (50%) suffering from insulin-dependent diabetes.

When to apply:

• if you are a conscript: from the invitation to enlist until the date of your enlistment in the Armed Forces. If you apply later, the exemption is granted if you were eligible on the date of enlistment
• if you are a private: anytime after you enlist
• if you are a conscientious deserter: after your deserter is terminated
